University of California Mexico City

About Us

La Casa de la Universidad de California is a foreign affiliate of the ten-campus system of the University of California administered by the University’s Office of International Academic Activities. In 2001, UC Regents, with the support of the California state legislature, moved to establish a UC hub/ mini-campus in Mexico to serve the expanding academic, research, and public service mission of the University in Mexico.

In 2003, Casa became a reality with the purchase of the property on Calle Carmen Nº 1 in historic Chimalistac. The beautifully landscaped facility is composed of the elegant late nineteen-century La Casona, owned by publisher Ignacio Cumplido, two twentieth-century  modernist  buildings which served as the residence for prominent Mexican architect Francisco Artigas, and a multi-story office building constructed by Banco Nacional de México (BANAMEX). Once a private residence and training center for BANAMEX, Casa marks the University of California’s next phase in development, providing for exciting and novel international education programs and research agendas in the twenty–first century.

The facility is headquarters for Casa administration, the Mexico Study Center of the UC Education Abroad Program (EAP), as well as EAP's Mexico-U.S. Comparative Perspectives Program and Field Research Program. Casa provides meeting space for UC alumni in Mexico. The facility is also a link between the ten UC campuses and Mexico.
